Presence of Soil Gases in Basements, Parking Lots and First Floors in Various Areas Print

Professional opinion

Dr. Eli Stern

Objectives

To quantitatively analyze the many measurements of concentrations of air pollution in basements, parking lots and first floors conducted which were taken between 2001-2004 in various areas of Tel Aviv, Ramat Gan and Givatayim, and to assess the risks of potential exposure to hazardous materials that are suspected carcinogens that were found in certain measurements, while referring to the reference values of the Almog Committee on the one hand and the dose-response curves of specific substances on the other hand (concentrations of pollutants that are apparently attributed to diffusion of soil gases resulting from the uncontrolled removal of volatile organic waste underground from various industries in the area).

Implications / Applications

Prioritization with respect to reducing the concentration of pollutants, depending on, inter alia, the way they are used, reflected in average exposure durations.

Status

The report was submitted to the Israel Cancer Association and Adam Teva V'Din in the Spring of 2008.

Financing organization

No external funding.
