DHV Report on the Planned IDF Training Complex Print

Professional opinion

Dr. Eli Stern

Objectives

To analyze the serious difficulties encountered when assessing the air pollution in the region caused by pollutants (hazardous materials) routinely emitted by factories in the Ramat Hovav Industrial Zone. The report also scrutinizes the conspicuous absence of risk assessments for potential, exceptional incidents at Ramat Hovav. This is an additional factor that must be considered, beyond the risks from routine operations.

Implications / Applications

The immediate implication of this opinion is the need to prepare a serious risk assessment report on potential scenarios at the Ramat Hovav Industrial Zone, to support decision-making about the location of the planned IDF Training Complex.

 Status

The report was prepared for the Commissioner for Future Generations of the Knesset and submitted to the Commission in the Spring 2006.
