Recommendations regarding sensible use of cellular phones and cordless phones Print

In July 2010, the recommendations published on the Israeli Ministry of Health website regarding sensible use of cellular phones, were assessed. An additional recommendation has been added to the existing guidelines on the subject of exposure to cordless telephones as follows;

"Does the use of cordless telephones (either in the home or workplace) involve exposure to radio frequency radiation?

Yes, the information is transferred from the base station (the unit in which the telephone is placed) and the portable unit of the cordless telephone in the form of radio frequency exposure, and therefore the precautionary principle should also be adopted with respect to cordless telephones. In addition to the mentioned guidelines regarding cellular phones, the Ministry of Health recommends with respect to cordless phones:

At home and in the workplace, use of a landline instead of a cordless phone should be considered.
When using a cordless phone, it is preferable that a speaker phone should be used so that the portable unit of the cordless telephone is distanced from the head.
Base stations of cordless telephones should not be installed in bedrooms, children's rooms or rooms in which much time is spent.
When the portable unit of the cordless telephone is not in use, it should be returned to the base station."
