Objectives

To compare the outcome for patients, aged 17-35, who were admitted to the Department of Emergency Medicine with a severe asthma attack, when treated with and without Aerovent.

Research type

A retrospective study comparing two protocols for treating an asthma attack in the Department of Emergency Medicine.

Method

Information was gathered from the files of patients who came to the Department of Emergency Medicine at Sheba Medical Center with a severe asthma attack, during a two year-period (1995-1997). Patients who were treated with Aerovent during the first period (1995-1996) were compared to those who were treated without Aerovent during the second period (1996-1997), when the use of Aerovent was discontinued for administrative reasons.

Status

Data was collected on approximately 800 patients.

An article is in the final stages of preparation.
