Economic evaluation has an increasing role in supporting decision-making regarding prioritizing medical technologies for funding (public or other) in many countries around the world.

Economic evaluation is a comparative analysis of alternative medical technologies in terms of cost and effectiveness. The use of economic evaluation allows maximization of the health benefits in a milieu of scarce resources.

Activities in this area focus on developing methods for conducting Cost-Utility Analysis (where the clinical outcome is expressed in terms of Quality Adjusted Life Years- QALYs) suitable to the needs of the Israeli health-care system, research on health-related quality of life and the use of economic evaluation as a decision-supporting tool, and performance of economic evaluation of medical technologies.
