"Camoni": Social Network for People Dealing with Chronic Diseases Print

Background

In the past generation, there has been a significant change in interaction with patients. In recent years there has been a transition from paternalism to "empowerment of patients." At the same time we are witnessing a social and technological revolution. The health system faces challenges and complex administrative and therapeutic goals, accompanied by increasing needs and treatment costs. This is coupled with an ever-increasing awareness on the part of the patient and his family to the quality and professionalism of treatment.

This complex reality requires adapting new treatment concepts, such as expanding computerization, which is an important and accessible resource in general, and for those with chronic diseases in particular. This is true for both patients and their families.

Internet communication enables the necessary and efficient integration of medical information, health education, and the provision of a social-support network for patients with common interests. The Camoni website (which in Hebrew means "like me") empowers patients and their families to take an active role in disease management in conjunction with the opportunity for social interaction that may improve their lives and enable them to make informed choices and to better cope with the challenges of their chronic illness.

What is Camoni?

Camoni is a virtual social meeting point for people with similar medical conditions, allowing them to consult with one another, to learn from and share their experiences with others. In addition to social networking Camoni provides the opportunity to receive expert opinion at "a single click."

Camoni is the first Hebrew online medical social network In Israel.
It includes various social tools such as blogs, group discussion, online chat, support groups, internal e-mail options and more.
